Every organization carries with it its own life, its own values and beliefs, whether it is for issues which must be addressed, standards to be developed, or support for those that are disadvantaged. These principles (i.e. values/beliefs) should both guide the organization's initiatives and help evaluate the success of those initiatives in fulfilling the organization's mission.

Principles are defined as statements which identify the philosophical guidelines for all of the organization's activities.

Given the preceding, the SGFP developed and approved the following set of principles as part of its Strategic Plan:

  • is dedicated to the continuous improvement of the relationships and understanding with other clinical specialties
  • continues to define and promote the role of family physicians in health care
  • is an advocate for the best possible care for patients in Ontario
